Step forward culinary wizard, actor, father and social networking extraordinaire Pany Galanis, who is helping to advocate women’s rights one spoonful at a time!

Pany is a firm believer in the modern way of thinking. Growing up Greek with four sisters, he was not expected to do any housework or cooking in his younger years, but after leaving the family home, he soon learnt to fend for himself.

Having learnt the basics by watching his parents cook Sunday lunch, he started experimenting with different dishes, trying to recreate the fine dining he had enjoyed in various restaurants. Before long, Pany was repaying his sisters for all their hard work growing up, by cooking up meals for the whole family to enjoy.

After flexing his literary and mathematical muscles in in various industries including Travel & Tourism, Bookmaking, Pub & Club promotions & management, Advertising Sales in Local Media and Personal Banking, Pany is now a self-employed actor. 

In between filming jobs and sets, Pany was encouraged by his daughter Georgina to set up a blog where he could showcase his acting work, but more importantly his love of food. Thus in May 2014, CyTasty was born, featuring articles on wine, restaurant reviews and of course, plenty of Pany’s own recipes.

Salmon Fillets and Fresh Fig Herb Bake

I do love baking Salmon fillets, so it’s nice to add a twist, to the overall flavour of the dish. This is a nice combination which will give a slight sweetness to the herby flavours and figs are good for you too. I enjoy eating the figs as fruit, so I thought to try this combination, with excellent results.


The secret to cooking salmon for me, is to always make sure you seal your over dish with foil. This way, it will keep its moisture and draw in any liquids, such as lemon juice, red wine, or sherry to enhance the flavour.



  • Salmon Fillets
  • Sliced Potatoes
  • Fresh Figs
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Herbs: Dill, Oregano, Thyme, Bay Leaves, Mint
  • Salt
  • Baking Foil
  • Sherry
  • Olive Oil
  • Sunflower Oil
  • Lemon Juice

Preheat your oven to Gas-Mark 6. Brush your baking tray with some Sunflower oil, sparingly, to end up with a thin film to stop the potatoes or Salmon fillets from sticking. Add your thinly sliced potatoes and your Salmon Fillets. Sprinkle some lemon Juice over the whole dish and add half a cup of water. Sprinkle some Sherry over the whole dish, making sure plenty goes over the Salmon. Add the slices of Onion and Garlic, making sure you put some on the Salmon fillets. Slice the Figs and place these on the salmon Fillets too, as demonstrated in the photos. Now salt the dish to taste, add some dried mint generously over the potatoes, sparingly over the Salmon. Repeat the same with the Oregano herb. Add dried Thyme, but sparingly to both this time. Now add the Dill herb, just to the Salmon. Split two bay leaves into quarters and add some on top of the Salmon and a little around the dish. Now drizzle some Olive Oil over the Salmon Fillets. Cover your dish with tin Baking foil, making sure it is air-tight and place in your pre-heated oven for twenty-five minutes. After the twenty-five minutes, remove the foil and brown for a further five minutes. You can serve this dish with boiled vegetables of your choice or a lovely salad, making for a tasty and healthy overall meal.
