Short Story in Verse Title Reveal!

Short Story in Verse Title Reveal!

As promised, this new year will see me trying to make it as a poet… or at least debuting my first attempt at a short story in verse!

The book will be published on February 6th in paperback and on kindle and is only short…as I said, it’s a short story in verse, but I hope that you will all enjoy it as much as my other work.

I will be revealing the front cover soon in another blog post but first and without any further ado, may I present to you the title…

Drum Roll please….

I should stress that this book is VERY different to any of my previous work. Not only is it written entirely in rhyming verse, but the genre is definitely NOT comedy and there is nothing Greek about it all. The story is set in medieval times and follows a young girl’s quest to seek vengeance for the death of her parents.

I will be revealing the cover (which I am VERY excited about) and blurb very soon, but until then I will leave you with a little extract from the story to give you a taster of what is to come. Hope you enjoy πŸ™‚

Once a wintry hallows eve,

When light was tucked up pitch-black’s sleeve,

and all about was quiet and still,

Night rocked the moon in her ivory cradle,

and the stars leapt dancing up the hill.

The air was biting as daylight broke,

the stars did flee, a swirl of smoke

ushered the creatures of the dark

back to their lairs. Within the stark,

bleak undergrowth they hid all snug;

Dawn yawned awake and gave a shrug.

And on this fateful, dewy morn

a little girl named Seraphina was born

all lollipop pink lungs and balled up fists,

with a dash of pixie feet and dainty wrists.

A land divided by war and hate

awaited this innocent bud, her fate

would rest in the hands of the Alliance,

who dared to stand in true defiance

against the tyrannical reign of a savage,

known as the Fanatic for all the damage

he caused to the people who lived on the border,

by ruling unjustly with his brutal Order.

Seraphina’s mother wept and laid her damp cheek

against her china dolls’ so soft and meek,

“My cherub,” she whispered in her daughter’s ear,

a voice that the bundle would not long hear,

for not two moments after Seraphina was born,

from her mother’s pale arms the baby was torn

by a dark hooded heathen on a dangerous mission,

who Seraphina would remember as only a cruel vision.
