Turning Passion into Pounds with Stylist Magazine

As part of Stylist Magazine’s on-going campaign to #ReclaimYourLunchBreak, today I spent a lovely afternoon mingling with the crème of blogging society and learning how to turn my passion for writing and blogging into a successful business.

The event was hosted by fellow Greek mum/award-winning film director/blogger extraordinaire Vicki Psarias from Honest Mum and award-winning entrepreneur/founder of Colour Blind Cards and JH Public Relations Jessica Huie MBE, both of whom have a wealth of experience when it comes to blogging the light fantastic.

The masterclass was held alongside various other COMPLETELY FREE events happening all over London in order to encourage people to take a break from work and improve our overall wellbeing and productivity.

I don’t usually make full use of my lunch break so it was an absolute treat to leave the office at midday and make my way to Aubaine in Marylebone to meet the girls and have a good natter.

The gorgeous, exuberant, sassy and wonderfully vibrant Vicki kicked off the event by talking about how she started her blogging career and what it takes to be successful in any business. The key ingredient: CONFIDENCE. Confidence in your work, confidence in what you can give to people and above all, confidence in yourself. Vicki urged us all to take risks in our entrepreneurial journeys and not be held back by insecurities. If you have a voice, let people hear it. Believe in what you are doing and OWN IT PEOPLE!

Jessica followed up by re-iterating Vicki’s points about confidence and redesigning your own life by taking the reins and being the master of your own time. Stunning, clever and clearly someone who has ‘taken the bull by the horns’, PR guru Jessica emphasised the need for getting yourself out there and knowing exactly what you are promoting. It’s all well and good to say that you want to start your own business, whether that be a blog or a company, but what is it that makes your enterprise stand out from others? Don’t miss an opportunity to pitch your dreams.

I often get criticised by people (including family and friends!) for being too organised – for having plans set in place and for knowing exactly what I want to achieve. Their argument is: well what if your plan doesn’t work out?

My answer? I always have plan B.

Both Jessica and Vicki explained how important it is to have end goals in your work and home life. These don’t need to be plans that are set in stone, or ‘Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?’ sort of plans. They simply need to be goals that you want to achieve at some point in your lifetime.

Vicki suggested that we all go home and write up a list of goals and how we think we might achieve them: whether that be for this week, this month, or next year.

I am a huge lover of lists and write TO DO lists regularly as well as New Year lists. It really helps to get things clear in my mind and gives me that extra oomph to kickstart ideas that I may have previously left by the wayside.

    What a great write up! Such an inspirational event and also great to be in the same space as other creative leaders and women on the move such as you. Only wish there was a little more time to network after as would have loved to stay and chat with more of you. Next time eh? On and I’m totally down with your list so far πŸ˜‰

    What a lovely way to spend a lunch break, especially as I very rarely get one! A room full of positive aspiring women. Wonder if you can bottle Vicki’s energy?

    It looks like you had a great lunchtime! I too like to think I am very organised. I’m all for going with flow but when you have a goal, it isn’t going to achieve itself. Even if you fail, the quicker you go do, the faster you can go to plan b.

    You’ve come away from the event even more ready to reach for the stars πŸ™‚

    When I had a standard job I would go for a walk with my friend every lunch time. These days if I am on a your I try yo have lunch in an old pub (for my tourists haha) at home I end up watching the daily politics show, hopefully it will come in useful for my scifi book.
